Currently Reading….

One Second After by William Forstchen. After finishing that, I’m going back to the Hornblower series by C.S. Forester. I’m a big fan of Robert Parker’s Jesse Stone novels and, as soon as SwampMan finishes Night and Day, I’m gonna snatch that up and read it, too.

What, you were expecting romance novels or something?

I’ve spent the last month and a half of unemployment relaxing, playing with grandchildren, reading, and blogging instead of actually doing many productive things that would contribute to the household funds. We had previously planned to spend the summer traveling before the economic you know what hit the fan so maybe I shouldn’t feel too guilty, but I do. Not guilty enough to stop, of course, just guilty enough to feel uncomfortable enjoying myself.

Update: Holy crap! Only part of the way through One Second After but I woke up this morning thanking God when the A/C was working and the lights switched on. I’m just at the beginning when the realization is starting to sink in to the hero that the electricity is not coming back on, maybe for years, maybe ever. The rest of the folks have no idea yet as to what occurs.

Scary stuff, and it could happen. I’m going to go mow grass and think about repairing the hand pump to the well and maybe getting started on the outdoor wood-fired oven I’ve been nagging SwampMan about for years.
