I read the CSX report on earnings where their shipping is down 25%. Not good. I have been reading that diesel fuel stockpiles are at a 16-year high. Not good. I read that trucking profits/shipments are way down. State sales tax collections are way down. Not good.
No matter what NBC, ABC, or CBS tells me, I know that the economy is not getting any better.
I had occasion to go into a Wal-Mart in a side of town not known for its gated communities at 6 p.m. yesterday. The aisles were empty of shoppers. It was rather eerie because I quit going there due to the crowded aisles and long waits to get checked out. This time, nobody. Checking the parking lot across the street, I noted that the parking lots of the stores across the way were fairly empty as well.
