Pembroke Pines First Grader Robs Another First Grader at Knifepoint

Read all about it here.  The armed robber allegedly got $1.00.

Did it really happen?  I don’t know.  I do know that the parents of a kindergartner at my school were very upset because the child told them that somebody else always ate his lunch, and he never got any!  The boy that said “somebody else ate his lunch” spends the time in the cafeteria playing with his food, the other children, or just spinning around aimlessly on the cafeteria seat.  Yes, we do tell him to eat his lunch over and over and over again.   Does he eat his lunch?  No.

Do kids have great imaginations?  Yes, they do!  Is it possible that the whole armed robbery was made up by a child that lost his lunch money?  Yes, it is.  Is it also possible that the child was telling the truth and that another child robbed him of his lunch money?  Yes, kids have had their lunch money stolen even back when I was in school.

Dressed for a Blizzard

This morning at school as the little kindergartners and first graders came in from the buses, I helped our class peel off their wrappings so that they could move sufficiently to go through the breakfast line in the cafeteria. I helped remove knit hats and gloves, then the outer jacket, the hooded sweatshirt underneath, and sometimes another hooded sweatshirt under the hooded sweatshirt under the jacket, leaving them with either a sweatshirt over a long-sleeved shirt, or just the long-sleeved shirt for the very brave as their little teeth chattered from the cold.

Temperature in the cafeteria: Approximately 68 degrees. Temperature outside at 7:30 a.m.: Approximately 48 degrees, or “normal” for this time of year.

Tomorrow will be another morning freeze with temperatures about 20 degrees below our “normal”.   Those children are going to take awhile to unwrap in the morning.

And, yes, I will be wearing a long-sleeved shirt, a sweater, a hooded sweatshirt, and a coat over the top of that when I come in to work, too.

Florida Family Makes it Home Safely From Indian Hotel

I saw their interview with reporters about their harrowing vacation spent hiding under the bed with their two sons while hearing people executed in the hallway. Read their report here.
