Great, Now Her Majesty The Cat is Mad

We spent the morning up at mom’s house doing some repairs, then off to Michael’s in Folkston for lunch, then to Home Depot to get some lumber, then off to pick up the grandsons for a visit. We stopped at Sonic on the way back for ice cream for the boys and limeade chillers for SwampMan and me. As soon as the order was roller skated out to us, SwampMan started driving with the ice cream and limeade chillers on the slippery center console. I was trying to juggle the ice cream, chillers, and open the spoons simultaneously while holding onto some of the boys’ toys.

“Uh, I can’t hold on to all of this. Could you please wait until I at least get the ice cream distributed before you drive into traffic?”

“Too late! Better hold on!” He hit the accelerator to merge into traffic.

And with that, my limeade chiller hit the floor with a splat. Upside down. The lid came off and the entire thing drained into the carpet. And we didn’t have the first napkin. I was able to save everybody else’s ice cream, though, and his chiller. Dang. I guess that’s just nature’s way of telling me I need to be on a diet anyway.

As soon as we got home, I needed to run to the grocery store and pick up some essential nutrition for small boys that I had neglected to stock up on before we picked them up. Sugary cereal. Chocolate for milk. Lots of extra milk. Hamburger. Hot dogs. Watermelon. Chocolate chips for cookies and muffins. You know, the basics that I wouldn’t let MY kids eat when they were little (grin). Oh, well, except for the watermelon and milk.

By the time I got out of the truck, twilight was fading into dark. Oh, snap. Snakes in the feed room. Time to feed! I grabbed 5-gallon buckets and started running to do afternoon chores. The Princess was devouring something because I was not home when I was supposed to be, and she had to go kill something instead. I wasn’t paying sufficient attention while I was dashing about, so she ostentatiously carried the victim to the exact middle of the sidewalk where I had to step around her while she was eating with outrage showing in every upraised hair on her body. After all, if I wasn’t LATE she wouldn’t have to stoop to eating a RAT’S ASS and could be eating canned food like God intended!

Oh, boy. I have a feeling there will be a rat’s head left on my windowsill or perhaps on the front step where I’ll be sure to step on it in the morning. Eeeesh.

Yes, she did eventually get her canned food. I know that doesn’t let me off the hook, though.

Youngest grandson has been very subdued tonight. Mommy said he was running a fever and not feeling well during the day. He’s sleeping very fitfully. Well, make that he WAS sleeping fitfully. He’s wide awake now at 11:30 p.m.

Hoo boy. I’m going to be waaaaay short of the old beauty sleep again.

Oh, snap. Oldest grandson just informed me that his throat hurts.

Youngest grandson started crying and said his head hurt and his eyes hurt; I took his temperature, and he’s running a slight fever. He informed me that mommy sent his medicine, and ran got the ibuprofen. I gave him some, and he told me he will get better now.

Unh huh. I figured. Youngest grandson lay down all day long today. Didn’t want breakfast or lunch…ate a little dinner. Had lots to drink. Still feverish. Felt back gums; they are swollen.

I put medicine up so that neither one will be sneaky drinking it.

Both of them want to see Mommy!
